What to eat in Oahu

What to eat in Oahu, Hawaii

Waikiki

Food trucks

Lots of variety on food trucks. we especially liked the Cuban empanadas and tasty Thai food.

Empanada

Poke

You can't visit Oahu and not eat poke. If you are vegetarian, you can get vegetarian poke from Maguro Spot.

Salmon poke bowl

Avocado toast

Not unique to Hawaii but wanted mention this option for all veggie lovers. Avocado toast at Sunrise Shack is way more than just decent.

Acai bowl

Acai bowl are must in Hawaii. I like mine with nut butter (monkey bowl) and goji berries, but you can't go wrong with acai bowl anyways. We have tried at Sunrise Shack and Hawaiian Crown Cafe. Both are good but Sunrise Shack comes with variety of options.

Banan

If you like banana, you will love banan. You can get this from Banan Waikiki Beach Shack. What I like about banan over acai bowl is acai bowl can taste a little sour based on what fruits in the base, banan is simply banana. Mac nut honey butter is a wonderful topping that goes well with banan, don't skip it.

Pineapple whip

An exotic alternative to the ice cream. Perfect place to eat the whip is after hiking Diamond Head, right at the park.

Malasadas

Portuguese doughnuts with fillings. Wasn't my favorite. If you go for it, get the plain one and eat fresh.

French Toast

French toast stuffed with blueberries and cream cheese at Sweet E's Cafe was enchanting as they described in their menu, but they have long wait time, keep that in mind.

East Shore

Loco moco

I ate my loco moco at the East Shore, at The Food Company Restaurant, but you can get this anywhere on the island. This is the most local dish you can find in Oahu. It is rice, meat(burger patty in my case) and eggs. It is yummy, it is satisfying.

Calzone

Eating calzone in Hawaii doesn't sound natural somehow, but I assure you the calzones are good here. We ate calzone at Bob's pizzeria, twice. What can I say, I like cheese, therefore I like calzone.

Macadamia Latte

Not specific to the East Shore but we got our first macadamia lattes in Egghead Cafe at Kailua. This cafe also had small bite size items so it is a nice stop for snacks.

Macadamia nut muffin

Another macadamia item I cannot refuse. We simply got ours from Kalapawai Market, and it was delicious.

North Shore

Green World Coffee Farm

This is not really a single item to try but a farm to stop by on the way to the North Shore. This coffee farm, has your latter but also has home brewed coffee. The home brewed coffee selection is immense, and you get to taste it for free. They also have bakeries. We loved the pecan bar.

Food trucks

Endless food trucks at the North Shore. Shrimp seems to be most popular, especially North Shore Shrimp Truck. We have tried quesadilla from Pupukea Grill, and it was just wow!

Quasadilla

Avocado on pita

Pita at The Beet Box Cafe was fresh and warm. We liked the item but we like the avocado better on a toast, see Sunrise Shack above for a more crunchy avocado toast.

For acai bowl, try Haleʻiwa Bowls at the North Shore. For baked goods try Ted's Bakery. They are both on my list for the next time.

If you have to see one thing i

Bad Travel Experience in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

This post is about my travel to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, a beautiful, mostly non-touristy island(s) country in the Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean. I took a different perspective on this post, seemingly negative, a more positive one will come shortly. In this post, I talk about my worst travel experiences from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. In other words, these are the worst things that can happen if you go to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Read and decide yourself if you still want to go, I bet you will find my experience rather humorous than scary. We all talk about the good and the glamorous. Hardly ever I see a blog post about negative travel experience. I believe it happens, but we are usually ashamed to shared that or we think it is going to overshadow the good experience. I, on the other hand, find it useful to read or hear about travel experiences where things were not ideal. I believe it gives us opportunity to learn and be prepared for it. If the negative

Barbados: Our Trip Itinerary

Barbados: Our Trip Itinerary 🇧🇧 We have spent two full days in Barbados. We have arrived on an evening, spent the next two days on the island and left in the morning on our last day. I wish we could have stayed longer, but this was part of our two weeks Caribbean island hopping trip and two days was the only time we can spare. I would like to return in the future and definitely spend more time. I know most people who visit Barbados, do so on a cruise, and spend only one day on the island. In that aspect, our two days trip was actually longer than how long most travelers spend on this island. Though I still envy people who is either retired or working remotely so they can stay longer. Let us start from the beginning. Why did we pick Barbados as one of our hops in our Caribbean island hopping trip? I will probably have a separate post on this whole island hopping trip, but in short, I specifically wanted to visit Southern Caribbean. The reason being I wanted to go to the islands that I
